Friday, September 19, 2008
-
Shortly after 3:00 pm companies 72 and 63 were dispatched to the 1500 block of Caroline Drive for a Natural Gas Leak. Engine 72 arrived on location under the command of Safety Officer John Moletteri to find a contractor reporting a strong odor of natural gas, believed to be coming from the areas around the home's gas meter. SO Moletteri requested PECO gas be dispatched to the scene.

Once It was determined that the incident was isolated to the individual residence, crews forced entry into the home to ensure there was no buildup of gas inside or other conditions that could pose a hazard. Interior crews found negative readings on the interior of the building and upon arrival of PECO the scene was secured and the companies were released within about an hour. 72-10 had Caroline Drive Command, 72-9 and 9A had Operations. Units on scene: Engine 72, Rescue 72, 63-2.

Public Service and Drill
Tuesday, September 9, 2008
-
Recently, Chief Lloyd was contacted by the Crozerville United Methodist Church on Mount Road to assist them with a project that Chief Eusden had been helping them with prior to his passing. The church had been doing some renovations to their bell and needed assistance with lowering the rope so that it could be used again. After surveying the area Chief Lloyd developed a few plans to lower the rope through the building and into the church, and asked all members to come out and assist. Because one of the plans required lowering the rope from the steeple, Truck 69 from Lima was also requested to assist if needed.

Tonight, the members under the direction of Chief Lloyd went to the church and used the Chief's plan and were able to successfully guide the rope into the church on the 1st try. After we finished at the church. the everyone returned to station 72 where crews from 72 and 69 had a drill on aerial operations, pump operations and pulling and operating a variety of handlines. Everyone was given the opportunity to climb truck 69 and operate its controls from the bucket. After the drill everyone enjoyed refreshments and eat others company. Thanks to Chief Billy Cairns and everyone at Lima for coming out and assisting us and Green Ridge for covering for us.

Members Retreat
Thursday, September 4, 2008
-
From Thursday to Monday, members Mike Keiser, Sarah Keiser, Nick Spayd, Kit Spayd, John Moletteri, Kate Dragone and Jim "The General" Tsao spent the weekend in Cape May, New Jersey. Despite the threat of Tropical Storm Hannah dumping over 6" of rain on the area, this group of members were still able to take part in a variety of activities including relaxing on the beach, shopping on the famous Washington Street Mall, boat rides and delicious home cooked dinners. One of the highlights of the weekend was the annual sunset toast led by the parents of Kit Spayd, Aston-Beechwood neighbors Jim and Carol Graham. Despite being postponed from Saturday to Sunday it was a wonderful time for all.

Despite so many members being away, Chief Lloyd prepared for the worst from Hannah and had crews on stand-by in the station, ready to respond to any emergencies that might have arisen from the storm. Luckily Hannah brought the area little more than some rain and wind.

Engine Assist to Bethel
Thursday, August 28, 2008
-
Just after 8am, The Engine 72 was requested to assist Bethel Township on Garnet Mine Rd for the Building Fire. 66-9B(J.Heacock) arrived on scene with Smoke Showing. 40-1 arrived just behind 66-9B and took the driveway.  It was determined that there was an active fire in the basement area. The crew from 40-1 ran an 1 3/4 line to the rear of the house, forced entry was made to the basement door, and the crew advanced the hose line into the basement and were able to quickly knock the bulk of the fire and  reported that ventilation was needed due to the smoke condition in the residence. Crews from 66 & 55 started ventilation along the remained of 40-1's crew. A PPV fan was set up in the front door to clear out the heavy smoke condition throughout the house. Crews from Engine 72 stood by in manpower and assisted with restoring the apparatus on scene. Good Job to all units who operated on scene. Units on Location: Engine 72, 40-1, 66-3, 55-3 Medic 66-7, and 66-9B.

Pool Rescue Drill
Tuesday, August 19, 2008
-
Tuesday August 19, 2-008: Tonight for drill, the members of Company 72 along with Company 63 traveled to the home of Safety Officer John Moletteri for a drill on water rescue. The Drill, taught by Sarah Keiser, wife of Assistant Chief Mike Keiser covered how to properly care for a patient who suffered a spinal injury while in a pool. After demonstrating the scenario, those in attendance were able to break off into teams and practice it for themselves. Even with summer rapidly winding down, the officers thought that a drill such as this would give the members a chance to try skills that they do not have to use frequently, but are important to keep up on with the large number of pools found at residences through out Aston Township.  After drill, those in attendance were able to use the pool  and backyard volleyball quart for their leisure while enjoying refreshments. Special thanks to the Moletteri Family for their hospitality, Sarah Keiser for teaching the class, the 72 ladies for organizing the refreshments, and 72-9 for providing the ice cream.

Appreciation BBQ for Helpers in our time of need.
Sunday, August 17, 2008
-
On May 20, 2008 Chief Rocky Eusden passed away suddenly. On Sunday morning May 25, the membership was asked to come to the firehouse for breakfast and to clean the station in preparation for the funeral. At 930am President Woodruff summoned the membership to the apron. At that time Green Ridge Fire Company Asst Chief Kenny Dawson Arrived with most of Green Ridge, Lima, Middletown, Tinicum, Chester Township Brookhaven, Lenni Heights and Chester Heights Fire Departments. To our memberships emotional surprise these stations had been organized by Kenny Dawson to help us prepare for the funeral. Station 69 had provided breakfast for our members.

By The time breakfast was over these crews had our station spotless and our trucks were ready for the Funeral. Bethel Fire Company came and took Engine 72 to their station to prepare it for carrying our chief. They removed the hose from the hose bed and made the truck spotless.

The Members of our station wanted to she our appreciation to these men and woman for all the help they had given us. We employed H & S Caterers for a BBQ to honor them. After a small emotional speech from the President and Chief John Lloyd, Plaques were given to the companies.

Again thank you all for your help and support during this trying time. It was awesome.
